In our third segment we invite you to take a closer look at one of our very first vendors, Clarence Curly LaMotte. A man after our own hearts, this man has become a staple of not only our store, but the hearts of stone lovers and rock hounds from Higgins and Houghton Lake to Grayling, Roscommon, Gaylord and beyond!
“Curly”, as he is known to those who have ever met him, has always been a part of our community. Today, you can find his polished rocks set up at farmers markets in cities around Grayling on most weekends or always, right here at Tip’n the Mitten.
Curly was in real estate for many years. Now, “retired”, he works hard making Michigan’s state stone into pieces of art and jewelry from fish to bears to Lower Peninsulas, crosses and anything else he feels people would love. Curly began collecting stones over 60 years ago and started polishing them not long after. Today, he continues making people smile with this talent! What once began as gifts for the family, quickly become a rock polishing empire right here in Grayling.
We are proud to be able to put our our “Petoskey Stones” sign each day knowing full well, that it is only a matter of time before another person stops in to find that perfect necklace, bracelet or stone just for themselves or someone they love.
Thanks for continuing to get to know our amazing Michigan vendors here at Tip’n the Mitten. Stop by and check out Curly’s display and all the other great products made right here, in Michigan.
